Johannes Brahms (1833–1897) was a German composer and pianist who spent most of his life in Vienna. He worked on his First Symphony for some twenty years under the shadow of Beethoven, and his four symphonies became the backbone of the Romantic orchestral repertoire. The recordings here were made for Musopen and released into the public domain.
